~ if your Spanish isn’t too hot, try this….”SWAY-NEOS FESS-TE-HOSS” !!! The concept behind SUENOS FESTEJOS grew out of the music composed by Andres influenced particularly by the Afro-Peruvian music and culture of the coastal region of Peru centred around Chincha. This is the home town of the pre-eminent maestro of the traditional cajon [or box drum] Julio “Chocolate” Algendones who is the principal inspiration and guiding light behind our music. Having met Andres in 1997, David went to Peru to complete the trio, recording a CD and playing several concerts. Thus were combined all the elements of the African Andean and European elements that make the music of this tradition so rich. During this period in Peru David composed several pieces to add to those of Andres creating the repertoire of pieces reflecting its Peruvian origins yet in structure and performance referring strongly to the Classical and Jazz backgrounds of Andres and David. Words cannot do justice to this unique style so listen now to selections from their forthcoming CD “..mi pasion.... ” recorded in England where both are now resident. |
